It's no surprise that Oymyakon is cold, but most of us do not know the extent of how cold it is. On February 6 1993, a temperature of -67.7 degrees Celsius was recorded, this is the lowest temperature recorded for any inhabited location on earth. Only Antarctica has recorded lower temperatures.
Oymyakon has very cold and long lasting winters but they also have very high temperatures in the summer. The highest recorded temperature was on July 28, 2010 with a high of 34.6 degrees Celsius. Even when it's summer the ground is still covered in permafrost, as it is all year round. Both seasons in Oymyakon weather it be winter or summer have very extreme temperatures and pose a difficult living situation.
